Chiara Tonelli is Principal flûte of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and a member of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. For many years she worked with M. Claudio Abbado and appears in concert halls around the globe with many of the today's most celebrated conductors.
For ten years she was the first solo flutist of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence (under principle conductor Zubin Mehta) and prior to that of the Teatro Regio in Turin. She has additionally performed with orchestras like the Orchestra di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Mozart Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Camerata Salzburg, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Zurich Opera. As a soloist she has appeared with numerous ensembles and performed on invitation at chamber music festivals in Europe and America. Following her graduation from the conservatory in her hometown of Bolzano, Chiara studied with Irena Grafenauer at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Her interest in performance practice has lead to her performing on baroque, classical and late romantic instruments with ensembles like Les Musiciens du Louvre and La Scintilla.
