Graduated from the Conservatory in Livorno with the highest possible marks, under the guidance of Mario Del Zoppo. He continued his studies at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Prof. G. Garbarino. From 1981 to 1994 he served as principal clarinet of the Orchestra della Toscana.

Since 1994 he is principal clarinet of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and he collaborates with renowned conductors such as Mehta, Muti, Giulini, Ozawa, Sawallisch, Bychkov, Pretre, Sinopoli, Pappano, etc. He is also an active chamber music and recording artist: he has recorded for Fonè, Arts, Edipan, A.I.F.; he recorded Berio’s Sequenza per clarinetto solo in collaboration with the composer for Materiali Sonori. As a soloist he has performed with conductors such as Berio, Mehta, Bellugi, Renzetti, Soudant and Inoue. He has taught at the Conservatories of Perugia and Livorno. Upon invitation of Piero Farulli, he has taught clarinet at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole since 1998.
