The Frenchman Olivier Thiery received his first double bass lessons at the age of fifteen by his own father Georges Thiery. In 2004 Olivier entered the class of prof. Niek de Groot at the Folkwang university for music, Essen, Germany.
As an orchestral musician his career began in Amsterdam, where he has been playing as a permanent member with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since august 2008.
In 2009 he was awarded a third prize in the 58th international ARD competition in Munich.
In addition to regular performance in different chamber music festivals over Europe, Olivier teaches, since 2014, at the "Conservatorium van Amsterdam".
In 2013, together with the pianist Sophie Labandibar, Olivier recorded "Illuminated Bass", his first CD for the label "Challenge Records International", including pieces from Shubert, Schumann, Hindemith and Bottesini.
